Later with Jools Holland, Metallica ... and Carla Bruni

The halls of the Elyse Palace are not notable for resonant with the thrashing drums and chopped guitar solos of "Kill 'Em All", "Cunning Stunts" or "St Anger". Nevertheless, the French first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, is patently enthralled to be taking time out from her diplomatic duties to jam alongside the heavy metal band Metallica and Sir Paul McCartney in a live visual aspect on Jools Holland's late-night television music show in two weeks' time.

The 40-year-old former model, world Health Organization married President Nicolas Sarkozy in February, is engaged to execute on the live broadcast, which will make up the number 1 episode in a new BBC2 series beginning on 16 September.

Mme Bruni-Sarkozy volition use the show, which traditionally begins with all of the host's guests playing together, to advance UK gross revenue of her recent album Comme Si de Rien N'Etait, which translates as "As If Nothing Had Happened".

Her quiet and reflective acoustic strumming will supply contrast to the head-banging antics of the enceinte metal band Metallica, coming into court on the show for the first time in 12 age. The former Beatle Paul McCartney will headline, with the Nashville rock threesome Kings of Leon complemental the line up. A spokesman for Later With Jools Holland aforesaid the inclusion of Bruni-Sarkozy on the same measure as the world's nigh famous heavy metal band was a natural choice.

"There's always a bit of a mingle of acts of the Apostles on the show, and Carla has been brought in aboard some heavier rock acts of the Apostles for this reason," he said. "It's just whatsoever the producers think would make a good testify. If they think the artists ar good enough, that's it. They don't just put people on for the sake of it."

Alison Howe, the producer of the series, aforesaid Bruni-Sarkozy had "made a charming album, and wanted to get along and perform on Later as we are low and frontmost a music show".

After contributing to the opening jam session, Mme Bruni-Sarkozy will give a brief interview to Jools Holland, the show's piano-playing host, earlier singing a few songs from her third record album, which went straight to the peak of the French charts following its release last month.

The album ab initio raised eyebrows in France for its unabashed and explicit references to Bruni-Sarkozy's relationship with the French President.

One particularly raunchy song, entitled "Yours", contains the lyrics "You're my lord, you're my darling, you're my orgy ... I who always sought flaming, am burning for you like a pagan woman." Other numbers see the first lady likening her lover to cocaine and even reflection about her prolific love life, vocalizing "I am still a child, contempt my 40 years, disdain my 30 lovers".

The book was about entirely penned by the former theoretical account and included collaborations with the French novelist Michel Houellebecq and the vocalizer Julien Clerc. Despite the controversial lyrics it was instantly hailed as a triumph by the bourgeois newspaper Le Figaro, which called it a "large success" and the mature work of an "exceeding singer".

Mme Bruni-Sarkozy's forthcoming show has drawn the choler of rock purists. James McMahon, features editor of the New Musical Express magazine, described the invitation as despicable.

He said: "As somebody world Health Organization cares profoundly about the power of rock and roll, I think it's disgusting. I've always been of the belief that rock and roll is supposed to be antiauthoritarian and about kicking up a bother, not about cosying up to the establishment."

Which Other Olympians Should Listen to Lil Wayne Before Competing?

Even before his bonkers gold-medal stockpiling in Beijing, the search was on for the key to swimming automaton and Daily Intel lust object Michael Phelpss domination. Earlier this week, in an interview with the Today show, he revealed a piece of the puzzle: Phelps told Hoda Kotb that he was listening to Lil' Wayne's "I'm Me" before winning his third gold, in the 200m freestyle. Of course! If anyone knows anything about winning it's Lil' Wayne, currently busy dominating the rap game. But Phelps shouldn't be the only one tapping Wayne's motivational power which other Olympians could benefit from some pre-performance Weezy?

1. He Kexin "Shorty Bounce"

Reports of underage gymnasts on the Chinese team have recently focussed on Kexin, who was apparently listed as 13 years old by the country's official news representation, Xinhua, only nine months before the Olympics (gymnasts must be 16 to compete.) Kexin and the rest of her lovely gold-medalist moppet teammates should have tuned out the detail-obsessed haters with "Shorty Bounce" the only Lil' Wayne song we know that's a vague squelcher of a former American gymnastics champion. Everybody now: "Yeah, plosive, pause, make 'em Dominique Dawes/ pitch a kick n**** when the shotties go off."

2. U.S. Men's Basketball Team "Pop Bottles"

The Redeem Team has already taken the forbear of Pop Bottles First we take shots, and and then pop bottles to heart, linear through weaker competition to a perfect record in the quarterfinals, staying focussed on the larger challenges ahead. In order to stay focused for their first big showdown with Spain tomorrow morning, they should belike ignore the second component Flirt with the hoodrats, and then pop models.

3. Irina Karavayeva "Sportscenter"

In the intro to this cut off his Dedication 2 mixtape, Weezy lets us know, I like sports, dog, basically thats what Im trying to say. Thats what Im into. Sports, sports, sports. Every sport I got a favorite thespian in every sport. Which substance he's mayhap the only person live who's cognizant that trampoline is an Olympic event. Russia's Karavayeva, who north Korean won the first-ever Olympic amber handed out in the sport in Sydney and is a favorite erstwhile again, should be bumping this hard.

4. Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova, "Black Democrats"

In the synchronized liquid duet, the connection betwixt the two athletes is so important that twins often compete alongside one another. It cant hurt Russias Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova, currently favourite in the competition, to study up on Waynes eternal bond with fellow M.C. Juelz Santana. The two frequently collaborate, but have maybe never sounded better together than on this track, their occupy on Nas and Jay-Zs "Black Republicans."

5. Kimberly Rhode, "Shooter"

This one basically writes itself. On Wednesday, Italys Chiara Cainero beat America's Kimberly Rhode and Germanys Christine Brinker in womens skeet shooting. The competition actually came down to a shoot-off, and we cant help but conceive if Kimberly had been rocking with some Shooter, off Tha Carter II I take you to the shootout, baby, win lose or draw / And then they ask world Health Organization when where how / And, my reply was simply prisoner of war!" she may have pulled this thing out after all. Amos Barshad

R Kelly found not guilty of child porn charges

A jury has acquitted R&B star R. Kelly of child pornography charges, finding he did not make an explicit videotape showing him having sex with an underage girl who called him "godfather."

The 41-year-old Kelly, whose given name is Robert, could have faced a sentence of up to 15 years in prison on 14 counts of child pornography.

The eight-man, four-woman jury deliberated about six hours over two days before delivering the not guilty verdict on all counts.

The 26-minute videotape featured oral sex, masturbation and other explicit acts and was handed over to police by a Chicago newspaper reporter in 2002. It had circulated widely on the underground video market.

Authorities said the tape was shot at Kelly's former Chicago home sometime between January 1998 and November 2000 when the girl was 13 or 14.

The tape was played in court for the jury, and the girl could be heard whispering "daddy" several times. Family members testified she considered Kelly her "godfather" who frequently gave her cash gifts. She sang in a group supported by the popular songwriter, singer and producer.

The girl, now 23, did not testify at the three-week trial in Cook County Criminal Court, having previously denied she was the girl on the tape. Kelly, who has toured and made million-selling albums during the six years since his initial arrest, denied being the man on the tape.
